Where to Find Winter Fun Around Hilliard

Hilliard, Ohio is a suburb of Columbus that sees just over 22 inches of snowfall a year, so it’s no surprise that the community has a lot to offer when it comes to sledding, skating, and other winter sports. Here are some of our favorite places to check out in the wintertime around Hilliard and the surrounding area if you’re a fan of the snow.

Roger A. Reynolds Municipal Park, 4 miles

This one’s a quick 10 minutes from The Pointe-Hilliard Apartments, and in addition to the sledding hill, offers a playground and other amenities for fun all year long. (Come back this summer for a swim at the Hilliard Family Aquatic Center!)

Ballantrae Community Park, 5 miles

Known for its summer spray fountains and Dancing Rabbits sculpture, this park in Dublin, Ohio, becomes a winter wonderland when the snow falls. According to TripAdvisor, park staff places hay bales in front of the trees, providing a safe place to sled for all ages.

Jack Nicklaus Park, 6 miles

A smaller 2-acre spread on Tremont Road in Upper Arlington, Jack Nicklaus Park offers a sledding hill, sidewalk, picnic tables, and street parking.

Thompson Park, 6 miles

Also in Upper Arlington, Thompson Park is a 49-acre space. In addition to the sledding hill, this park provides athletic fields, paved paths, and hiking trails, picnic tables, and shelters available for reservation.

Reed Road Park, 6 miles

This park in Upper Arlington is another one that offers plenty of amenities in addition to the sledding hill, such as sports fields, picnic tables, shelters available for reservation, and public art to enjoy. Come back this summer for swimming, rock wall climbing, and sand volleyball!

Clinton-Como Park, 9 miles

A 20-minute drive to Columbus from The Pointe Hilliard, Clinton-Como Park is a bit more of a jaunt but worth the effort. According to Columbus on the Cheap, this park has a long, gentle hill that’s perfect for younger or less adventurous sledders.

Huntley Bowl Park, 13 miles

A bit of a drive via I-270, but it’s a great space for sledding as it was created primarily as a 28-foot deep retention basin for rainwater. One side of the basin has been modified to function as the sledding hill.

Battelle Darby Creek, 15 miles

This park sits on roughly 7000 acres of prairie and wetland nestled along 13 miles of the Big and Little Darby creeks. It offers a sledding hill, skating pond, and hiking trails.

Glen Oak Park in Orange Township, 16 miles

Ideal for winter fun, Glen Oak Park has a sledding hill and a pond that’s drained to less than 24″ deep in the winter to allow ice skating. According to Orange Township, the ice thickness is measured on a regular basis for safety, and signs are posted when ice skating is permitted.

Delaware State Park, 27 miles

This park is a bit further but makes a great day trip if you’re willing to go for a drive. When conditions allow, park visitors can enjoy cross-country skiing on all of the hiking trails, as well as sledding and ice fishing. (See site for more information!)
